Numerology is the study of the symbolic significance of numbers. The most important number in Pythagorean numerology is the Life Path Number — derived from your date of birth. It reveals your fundamental nature, innate tendencies and the overarching theme of your current lifetime.

How to Calculate Your Life Path Number

Add all the digits of your full date of birth and keep reducing until you reach a single digit. The exceptions are master numbers 11, 22 and 33, which are not reduced further.

Example: 15 August 1990

How Numerology Complements Vedic Astrology

Your life path number often confirms or adds nuance to your Vedic ascendant and moon sign analysis. Name numerology (Chaldean system) further reveals how your name interacts with your birth date — and whether a name correction might improve your luck and opportunities.

A muhurat is an auspicious time window calculated by a Vedic astrologer for a specific event — a wedding, a business launch, a house move, a surgical procedure. The underlying belief: certain moments are inherently more supportive of success than others, based on the position of planets and the five elements of time.

The Panchang: Five Limbs of Time

The word Panchang means “five limbs” (panch = five, ang = limb). These are the five elements used to assess every moment:

1. Tithi — Lunar Day

A tithi is the time taken for the Moon to move 12 degrees from the Sun. There are 30 tithis in a lunar month. The waxing moon (Shukla paksha) is generally preferred for auspicious beginnings.

2. Vara — Day of the Week

Each day is ruled by a planet. For weddings: Wednesday (Mercury), Thursday (Jupiter) and Friday (Venus) are generally auspicious. Tuesday (Mars) and Saturday (Saturn) are typically avoided.

3. Nakshatra — Lunar Mansion

The nakshatra in which the Moon is transiting is one of the most important factors. For weddings, auspicious nakshatras include Rohini, Mrigashira, Uttaraphalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha and Uttarashada.

4. Yoga — Planetary Combination

There are 27 yogas calculated from the combined longitudes of the Sun and Moon. Vishkamba, Atiganda, Vyatipata and Vaidhriti are inauspicious for new beginnings. Siddha, Amrita and Brahma yogas are especially auspicious.

5. Karana — Half Lunar Day

A Karana is half a tithi. Vishti (Bhadra) Karana is strictly avoided for all auspicious events.

Additional Factors

Beyond the five Panchang elements, our astrologers also consider: Lagna (rising sign strength), Rahu Kaal (90-minute inauspicious daily period), Tarabalam (birth star compatibility with the event nakshatra), Chandrabalam (moon sign relationship), and the client’s personal birth chart.

KP Astrology — formally known as Krishnamurti Paddhati — is a system developed by the Indian astrologer K.S. Krishnamurti (1908–1972). It emerged as a refinement of Vedic astrology, introducing the sub-lord theory that allows for significantly more precise predictions than traditional methods.

“Traditional astrology tells you the theme of a chapter. KP astrology tells you the paragraph, the sentence, and often the word.”

The Core Difference: Sub-Lord Theory

In traditional Vedic astrology, the 27 nakshatras divide the zodiac into segments ruled by different planets. KP takes this further by dividing each nakshatra into nine further sub-divisions — called sub-lords — based on Vimshottari dasha proportions. This creates 249 unique sub-lord divisions of the zodiac, each with distinct predictive significance.

The sub-lord of the cusp of any house determines whether that house’s significations will materialise in your life. This is why KP can answer specific yes/no questions with timing — something traditional astrology struggles to do with confidence.

Horary Astrology (Prashna) in KP

KP is particularly renowned for its prashna (horary) system. When a client asks a specific question, the KP astrologer casts a chart for the exact moment and place the question is asked. Using sub-lord theory, a skilled practitioner can give a clear yes or no answer, often with a timing estimate accurate to the month.

KP vs Traditional Vedic — Which Should You Choose?

The two systems are complementary. For a specific life question or decision, KP is more suitable. For a broad life reading, understanding personality, karmic patterns and long-term themes, traditional Vedic astrology provides richer insight. Many clients benefit from both.

In Vedic astrology, each of the nine planets (Navagrahas) has an associated gemstone called a Navaratna. Wearing the correct gemstone, set in the right metal and worn on the right finger at the right time, is believed to strengthen the corresponding planet’s positive influence in your birth chart.

“A gemstone does not change your destiny. It amplifies the strengths you already possess.”

Kundli matching — also called kundali milan or guna milan — is the traditional Vedic astrology practice of comparing birth charts of two individuals to assess compatibility before marriage. It has been practised for thousands of years and remains deeply relevant for both arranged marriages and couples seeking clarity.

The 36-Guna Ashtkoot System

The most widely used method is the Ashtkoot system, comparing eight attributes with a total of 36 gunas (points). A score of 18 or above is generally acceptable; 27 or above is considered excellent.

Understanding the Major Doshas

Mangal Dosha: Occurs when Mars is placed in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house. Modern Vedic astrologers assess it in full context — many charts have cancellation conditions (Mangal dosha nashak). When both partners have Mangal dosha, they are highly compatible as the doshas cancel each other.

Nadi Dosha: Occurs when both partners belong to the same Nadi (Aadi, Madhya or Antya). Considered the most serious dosha as it relates to health and children. Specific nakshatra combinations can cancel it.

What Actually Matters Beyond the Guna Score

The guna score is a starting point, not the final word. A complete analysis also includes: 7th house strength for both individuals, Venus and Mars placement, dasha compatibility, longevity indicators and financial compatibility. A score of 32/36 with severe dosha combinations can be more challenging than 20/36 with harmonious planetary positions.

Saturn — Shani — is the planet of karma, discipline, hard work and time. Its transits are among the most consequential events in Vedic astrology, affecting each rashi (moon sign) for approximately 2.5 years. In 2025, Saturn’s position in Aquarius (Kumbha Rashi) brings profound shifts across all twelve signs.

“Shani does not punish — he teaches. What he takes away was never truly ours to keep.”

Understanding Saturn’s Transit

Saturn spends roughly 2.5 years in each zodiac sign. The most discussed Saturn period is Sade Sati — the 7.5-year cycle when Saturn transits through the sign before your rashi, your rashi itself, and the sign after. Sade Sati is primarily a period of restructuring and karmic settlement, not necessarily hardship.

Saturn’s transit through Aquarius is significant because Saturn is the natural ruler of Aquarius — making it strong and purposeful here, more willing to reward disciplined effort and penalise shortcuts.
