Kundli matching compares two birth charts to assess marriage compatibility. The most common method, Ashtakoot Guna Milan, scores the match out of 36 points across eight factors called koots.
What the score means
- Below 18 — generally not recommended without deeper analysis
- 18–24 — acceptable
- 25–32 — very good
- 33–36 — excellent
But the number alone is never the full story. A high score with serious dosha issues can be weaker than a moderate score with strong charts.
The eight koots
Each koot measures a different layer of compatibility — Varna (temperament), Vashya (influence), Tara (health), Yoni (intimacy), Graha Maitri (mental bond), Gana (nature), Bhakoot (love and finances) and Nadi (genes and progeny). Nadi carries the most points and is watched closely.
What about Mangal (Manglik) dosha?
Mangal dosha is often misunderstood. When both partners are Manglik, the dosha is generally cancelled and they can be highly compatible. A qualified astrologer assesses this properly rather than reacting to the label.
